In today's time, the construction of basement has become the need, due to limited space available for residence. Though a vacant space under the house is not considered auspicious according to Vastu, yet some points are considered while constructing a basement.
As per Vastu, building a basement in northern or eastern portion of the house is considered good. But if we have to construct a basement then It is necessary to keep more vacant space in the North and East than in the south and west. Keeping this in view, the basement in north and east direction is beneficial. Ideally, basement should not be built under entire house.
Basement should not be used for residential purpose. It can be used as store room and office.
Some people use basement as storage tank of water. Storage of water in basement would always be auspicious in north-east, north-west and at eastern and northern angles.

Great post my dear, we have had flooding rains here for days, my sister basemenet is flooded, now her hot water tank is there and the water put the flame out to heat the water, hugs my friend,
Only had one real basement and that was when I was a small child. Spacious enough for me to have a swing, trappez set. The furnace and water heater were both also down there. In the mid western states a basement is a necessity because of tornados. Best place to be when they hit. Miss having a basement though as usually plenty of room for extra storage.
Oh dear Sylvia, Its really sad to hear about ur sisters basement....thats why in vastu we do not recommend basements but if necessary as in todays life we cannot avoid it. As it is water is cold and heater or fire should not be kept together...But anyways, Hope all will be fine soon.
Oh Mary, ....I know in childhood basements are seen from other angle only...of playing...
